Riga

Riga is the capital of Latvia as well as the biggest city in all of the Baltic States.  Riga's historical center is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, noted for its Art Nouveau architecture and 19th century wooden architecture. In 2014 Riga received the title to become the European Capital of Culture. At the same time, Riga is a truly cosmopolitan European capital, with lots of different languages spoken by the locals and people from both East and West choosing it as their new home town. The constant flow of people and ideas make the city a robust and innovative center providing something for everyone, and possibly that is why many refer to it as the city of inspiration. There are 11 state and 15 private (including two foreign branches) higher educational institutions in Riga, as well as 10 state and 9 private colleges. Riga is also home to several research institutions, majority of which are associated with the University of Latvia.

University of Latvia

The University of Latvia was founded in 1919 and currently, with its more than 14  000  students, 13  faculties and more than 19 research institutes and independent study centres, it is one of the largest comprehensive and leading research universities in the Baltics. The University offers more than 130 state-accredited academic and professional study programmes. At University of Latvia, research is conducted in over 50 research fields, which represent four main areas of inquiry: the humanities, sciences, social sciences, and education sciences. The University pays great attention to the development of international collaboration, and supports different schemes of mobility. At present, the University of Latvia has signed 165 bilateral agreements with universities around the world, more than 600 Erasmus+ agreements. University of Latvia is a successful partner in Erasmus Mundus projects JoinEU-SEE, Triple I, Lot 3b, Centauri, MOVER, AURORA and LEADER as well as Erasmus Mundus Joint-Master Programme (MISOCO).

Faculty of Law of the University of Latvia

The University of latvia Faculty of Law has been the cradle of legal sciences in Latvia ever since its establishment in 1919. It has no equal competitors in Latvia, as most of the important legal findings and results are produced here. The Faculty is proud of its professors and graduates, who are successful and outstanding lawyers. Professors lead the studies at the University and are also actively engaged in their profession as distinguished judges, prosecutors, sworn attorneys and heads of various governmental institutions. The Faculty has its own Legal Clinic, where students work with real clients under the guidance of professors and graduates. Continuing education courses and programmes are offered to graduates and professionals. With more than 1400 students in four study programmes, the Faculty of Law is not only the largest law school in Latvia, but also has a wealth of traditions and achievements. It facilitates the overall development of the legal science sphere in Latvia.
